The 13th Jean-François Prat Prize was awarded to the artist Christine SAFA, Tuesday June 4th, 2024 at the Bredin Prat Foundation for Contemporary Art – 53 quai d’Orsay, Paris.
Her work was presented to the jury by Jean-Marie GALLAIS, curator at the Pinault Collection.
The Jury was chaired by Jean-Paul AGON, chairman of the Friends of MAM Paris (Museum of Modern Art of Paris), and of L’Oréal group.
Christine SAFA, (30 years old) born in Chesnay, is the winner of the Jean-François Prat 2024 prize. The two other artists presented are Henni ALFTAN and Hyunsun JEONG.
Christine Safa focuses on moments and places full of emotion that memory has retained. She suggests the human presence in her paintings, centered on Mediterranean landscapes, which correspond to a transfer of her memories of places and loved ones. Faces mingle with the mountains, silhouettes rub shoulders with horizons, figures arise in the landscape, reduced to the essential, and become a vibrant layer of paint.
Jean-Paul AGON expressed what interested him in this edition of the Jean-François Prat Prize:
“It so happened this year that we chose three artists who happen to be women, for their works and their achievements, so it’s a wonderful recognition of the talent of women. During the jury, we had three impressive pleadings due to the quality, erudition and the very rich comments of the supporting curators of these artists, which helped to form our final choice”
