Bredin Prat’s tax team works closely with the firm’s M&A lawyers, on the most complex tax aspects of domestic or cross-border transactional matters, whether mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers or private equity transactions (including management packages) or corporate restructurings.
Bredin Prat also has considerable expertise in tax controversy matters: the firm’s tax law team assists both companies and their executives in connection with tax reassessments and tax litigation, if necessary in tandem with the firm’s lawyers specialising in white-collar criminal defence and in public business law.
The tax team also assists private clients, and is involved in the structuring of real estate investments (including through SIICs, i.e., French listed real estate investment companies, similar to REITs).
The team is frequently consulted on proposed reforms of tax legislation, regularly comments on draft administrative guidelines (Bulletins Officiels des Finances Publiques) and participates in “think-tank” groups alongside officials from the French Tax Authorities. The team is also very active with various professional and business associations (International Fiscal Association (IFA), Institut des Avocats Conseils Fiscaux (IACF), Association Française des Entreprises Privées (AFEP), France Invest, Association Française des Femmes Fiscalistes (A3F) and Association Française de la Gestion Financière (AFG)) and publishes numerous articles in authoritative French and international journals.
Bredin Prat’s tax team works seamlessly with the tax teams of its Best Friends network and the lawyers also form joint working groups specifically to examine global tax issues affecting its clients.
